New Term, New Starts

Thinking back to last term, things got pretty full on. There were a number of sicknesses on staff and with the tamariki. Starting a new term is refreshing.
Learning for next round of reporting,  I need to get things out earlier. Lets have reports done by week 8 of last term.
This is the big term of the year. I will be spending a lot of time in the classrooms. ERO will be back later in the term. There will be much preparation for that.
The last couple of days have been super full on!

Mahinga Kai

Great to have more learning out in the mahinga. I see a different side to the tamariki. Really happy we are trying to propagate some of our own kauri seeds, all stemming from our learning at the awa.

Te Kuia me Te Pungawerewere

What an awesome performance we enjoyed. All in te reo. Ataahua o tatou nei reo!

Hauhake kumara

Another great harvest of Kumara for 2019. Can't wait to plant more next year.

Te Ranga

What an amazing adventure we had.
So grateful to be walking these ridges with our tamariki. It truly is a blessing. Another stretch of our maunga rangatira completed.

What a load

Today has been fantastic. To have Debbie here to support has been fantastic. We sat together today and went over our Analysis of Variance and targets for 2019 as well as annual plan. Wow it was a great session. It hit home on some crucial non negotiables as a leader. One learning was to have the hard data in order.
Another is to have these documents finished and handed in before I go on holiday. Already I feel really good about 2019 and even projecting towards 2020. I have been able to get through a few a other things. Nailing the budget was a huge accomplishment. Also working through policy with school docs and health and safety with the state of our playground.
Getting through a board meeting was a success. I've started a board working plan for the year, I fell it will be really great.
Although there is still a lot of mahi to be done I'm feeling much better.

Early Wakes

The nature of this beast is finding myself waking at early times in the morning with things on the mind. Last night was a very pleasant sleep. In reflection, it may have been that I took some time to reflect and bring closure on a few things that took place yesterday. I might have to try this theory out. Anyway, there is so much to do and I wonder when and how I will fit it in. I'll keep trying to do my best. 😩😩😄😄😄

Staff Meeting Week 4

I thought our staff meeting was really effective today. Went over in depth the appraisal process. Went through all the documents. We are making great progress with the staff website too, with everything being accessed from the website. Adding planning and assessment tabs to the website. This is increasing transparency with the team and making things quickly accessible.

Korero with Mark Scott

I had a very informative korero with MAori medium advisor from the ministry. We spoke together about the kaupapa of kura a iwi. We spoke about 2nd language acquisition. I like that kaupapa, using both languages to learn more. I aspire to be excellent in both worlds and both languages. I desire too that the children aspire to this goal too. There are some non negotiables: level 2 reo, ngatiwai reo, ngatiwai holds the mana. I've talked to the board and we'll try and get Mark back to korero about the kaupapa and then schedule a whanau hui and see if the whanau feel good about the kaupapa. I have since spoken to John from Omanaia who is on the same pathway, and Riripeti from Raurimu who is also looking at kura a iwi status.
